Strelitzia nicolai is all about scale. Huge banana-like leaves create an instant indoor jungle feel and bring a sense of drama to any space. It rarely flowers indoors, but the foliage alone makes it one of the most impressive statement plants you can grow. It suits open spaces and high ceilings where it has room to stretch.

Light

Strelitzia nicolai thrives in bright light and can handle direct sun indoors. A sunny spot helps it develop those broad, upright leaves. In lower light it will survive, but the growth will be slower and less dramatic.
Watering

• Water when the top two inches of soil begin to dry
• Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth
• Reduce how much you water in winter when growth slows down
• Avoid letting the soil stay soggy - good drainage is essential

• Fast grower in good light
• Can reach 2 to 3 metres tall indoors
• Not safe for pets
• Fun fact: In the wild, these plants can grow into small trees more than 6 metres tall
