Begonia maculata is famous for its gorgeous leaves covered in silver polka dots with a rich red underside. The contrast makes it feel like a piece of living art. It works beautifully as a standalone accent on a side table or shelf, where the leaves can catch the light, or styled in a group of green plants to break up the monotony with pattern and colour.

A few house rules...

Begonia maculata thrives in medium light. It enjoys bright, indirect light but should be kept out of direct sun, which can burn the patterned leaves. A spot near a window with filtered light works well.

Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top layer of soil feels dry, then let the excess drain away. It appreciates a bit more humidity than the average houseplant, so occasional misting helps keep it fresh.
