Wire Vine Information

At a glance

Wire Vine is a beautiful, free-flowing trailing plant, with fine dark stems and hundreds of tiny rounded green leaves. Its naturally tangled growth looks lovely spilling over a hanging pot or trailing along a shelf.

Why you'll love this

Delicate in appearance but wonderfully adaptable, Wire Vine brings soft texture to both indoor and outdoor spaces. Supplied in a 20cm nursery hanging pot.

Growing indoors

Place your Wire Vine somewhere bright, with plenty of indirect daylight. Near an east- or west-facing window is a good choice, although protect the leaves from intense afternoon sun through glass. Turn the pot occasionally so the stems grow evenly.

Check the compost regularly and water once the surface starts to feel dry. Aim for lightly moist soil rather than letting the root ball dry out completely, and always allow excess water to drain. Growth may slow over winter, so water less frequently. Trim any long or untidy stems to encourage a fuller shape.

Growing outdoors

Wire Vine is lovely in hanging baskets and containers, where its fine stems can spill naturally over the edges. Choose a sheltered position in sun or partial shade. In hotter, exposed positions, a little afternoon shade will help prevent the compost drying too quickly.

Outdoor hanging baskets can dry out quickly in warm or windy weather, so check the compost often during summer and water thoroughly whenever the surface starts to dry. Make sure the pot drains freely, especially through wet spells. Protect container-grown plants from prolonged hard frost and icy winds, moving the basket somewhere sheltered when needed.

Good to know: Wire Vine can be lightly pruned to keep its shape. Some leaf loss in colder conditions is normal, and fresh growth can return in spring where the stems remain healthy.
