This is the classic. The Green Rubber Plant does one thing really well: bold, glossy leaves that give a room proper structure.

It’s fuller and deeper in tone than the variegated version, so it works well when you want something with a bit more weight. 

It’s also one of the more straightforward houseplants once it settles in. Give it a decent spot, don’t mess with it too much, and it will steadily grow into something that feels established.

A few house rules...

Light

This plant thrives in bright, indirect light but also tolerates medium light. A little soft morning sun is fine, but avoid strong afternoon rays. Turn it every so often so it keeps that even, upright shape.
Watering

• Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry
• Give a good soak and allow excess to drain away. Never allow it to sit in water
• Water less often during cooler months
• Wipe the leaves now and then to keep them glossy

• Fun fact: Rubber Plants were once tapped for latex, though not the same kind used in commercial rubber today
