The Spiral Cactus is one of those rare plants that look like a piece of design. Its tall, sculptural form grows in a natural twist that looks almost hand carved. Native to the deserts of South America, it’s a slow grower but a showstopper. It works beautifully as a standalone piece in modern or minimalist spaces where its unusual shape can really stand out.

A few house rules...

The Spiral Cactus loves bright light and plenty of it. A sunny windowsill or south facing room suits it best. It can handle direct sun all day long, which keeps its twist pronounced and its colour rich.

Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and always ensure good drainage. In winter, it needs very little water while it rests. Like most cacti, it prefers neglect over fussing.

• Fun fact: The spiral form develops as the cactus matures. Young plants often start straight before twisting into shape as they grow toward the light
