The Peace Lily carries a long history as a symbol of peace and surrender, with its white flowers rising like small flags. Elegant yet low maintenance, it blends easily into most interiors and is especially good in lower light. It offers lush green leaves with minimal effort, and when it blooms, the flowers add instant polish. It also has its own way of communicating. When the leaves droop, it is simply asking for water, and within an hour of a drink it springs back as if nothing happened.

A few house rules...

Peace Lilies thrive in medium light, where they produce the most flowers. They will tolerate low light and stay green but may bloom less. Direct sun is too strong and can scorch the leaves.

• Water when the top layer of soil feels dry
• Give a thorough soak, then allow extra water to drain away
• Leaves will droop slightly when thirsty - a clear signal it’s time to water
• Prefers higher humidity but copes fine in most homes

• Moderate grower indoors
• Usually reaches 40 to 80 cm tall
• Not safe for pets
• Peace Lilies were one of the stars of NASA’s Clean Air Study, shown to remove common household toxins from the air
